National Roman Museum -

Location and History

The construction of the "Terme di Diocleziano", whose colossal remains face the "Termini Station", was begun in 298 A.D. and finished in 305 A.D. The museum was founded in 1889 and has inherited preexisting collections among which you can see the Ludovisi Family's collection, that was kept in "Altemps Palace", and the Kircheriano Museum's antiques, that were kept in "Maximum Palace"

In "Terme di Diocleziano"'s rooms you can admire a considerable epigraphic collection which consists of nearly 10.000 inscriptions, sarcophagi, mosaics and frescoes. A museum's section is dedicated to the work of art coming from the imperial villas
